At this point you might be asking yourself, “Rosetta, are you crazy?” to which I may wink and attempt a backflip. Your follow-up question very well might be “Who usually sees this on an audition page?” To which I will respond:
VIOLIN 1: The BSO wants the beginning to m. 165. That’s the Scherzo to the repeat for those following along at home.
VIOLA: also beginning to m. 165.
BASS: also the beginning to m. 165, though the BSO is not asking for this particular Beethoven symphony in October’s audition.
We’ll take this one slowly… to start! That is of course, if we have enough strings to do so. Otherwise, I will sing each part while conducting, and no one wants to hear that.
